Planning your Vacation in the Wild
Summer vacation is coming soon! Most of you are in process of planning your vacatioin. Here are some helpful hints to save money on planning your vacation.
Does your family love the zoo? If so, there is opportunities to save while on vacation. Check your local zoo’s reciprocal list to see where your family can get a discount at other zoos with your annual membership. For an example, I went to the Detroit Zoo’s Reciprocal list on their website and saw there was a large of amount of zoo’s that charge you half price if you have a Detroit zoo membership. They also have a list of zoos that have free admission too. Plan your vacation around the zoo’s that offer half off or free and your kids will have a blast.
Another idea is to pay for a state park pass and travel visiting the state parks for free. For an example, in Michigan, buy a state park pass and go up north and enjoy some peaceful scenery.
Use Google Maps to plot driving directions and each zoo or state park that you want to visit.

Can EMRs help uncover child abuse?
I recently was passed along a link to a sad story on YouTube about a boy named Peter Connelly. Peter was abused by family members including the mother’s boyfriend. On several of the slides it tells you that when he went to the doctor, the mother said that he had fallen. I was just wondering if the doctor had an EMR and had put in the notes about the bruises if he would’ve noticed a pattern in his records. I know it is to late to save Peter but could EMRs save a child in the future from more abuse. The doctor can take digital photos and upload them to the file for possible future case proceedings. This right here makes it worth while within itself.

Saving time planning meals
I actually have to give my neighbor credit for this idea. I haven’t used it yet but I will try it next week. She had the idea to cook the same meals on the same day of the week every week. For an example meatloaf on Mondays, pot roast on Wednesday and etc. The only fall back is that I would get tire of this meals every week. My spin on this is that everyday of the week will be a different kind of meat. For an example, something with ground beef on Mondays, Chicken on Tuesdays and etc. You can then find recipes that are easy to make for those days.
No more waiting in line for Customer Service
I recently found a company that tells you online how long the wait time is if you were to call the help desk right then. I found that godaddy.com has a clock that tells you how long you’re going to wait. I think this is a genius idea. I just keep checking the site to see when the slowest times are and then call. Click here to see what I’m talking about.
Online Memorials
Instead of a teddy bear, note or balloon placed where a person might have passed people are now using Facebook to say goodbye to their loved ones. Instead of going by their cemetery you go to their Facebook page to say “Hi” and tell them that your missing them. It gives people an outlet to share their feelings about a lost love one.

Continued to be focused
Since last week, I’ve been focusing on displaying to the world what I like to do. I created an online resume on YouTube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QsZZ6ibliBc . I’m currently doing research to see what a demand for these types online resumes there is as a possible service to people looking for a job. I have went through previous projects and put them on slideshare.com which I linked to my LinkedIn.com profile. Let me know what you think by taking this short survey http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.aspx?sm=4j_2f8ZJd8wkMBpTNYVFpOgg_3d_3d .
Cheers,

Focus on your passion
I just heard a comment “focus on your passion” and I decided to apply it to my life. I started asking myself “What is my passion?” This is a very good question. What do I like to do? I couple of things came to mind…
- Technology
- Teaching or planning programs
- Helping or assisting people
- Learning new technologies
These are just the top ones. I’m in the point of my life where there are many paths to be taken and I could take any one of these paths. It goes back to the comment “focus on your passion.” These passions are like paths that I can’t do all at once but I need to focus on one or a few. I would like turn my passion into a successful business. This is where the ideas are numerous and they need to be narrowed down and turned into a reality. This thought will be continued in other posts.

Secure Handling of Mobile Devices at the Office
Secure Handling of Mobile Devices at the Office
- Do not leave your laptop unattended and unlocked during the day, even for a short time period
- During the day, your assigned laptop should be locked to your desk at all times unless you are taking it to a meeting with you. This is only a temporary deterrent during the day and not a secure solution for overnight storage. (See company policies for specifics)
- If you have a Docking Station: on the right side of the Dell dock, there is a combined slide switch and lock port. (Picture of Dell Dock Lock) If the slide switch is put in the lock position with the Laptop installed, it locks both the Laptop and dock together. Then install the cable lock into the lock port.
- See if your company would provide a security cable to protect your laptop.
